Superfoods – back to basics

July 7th, 2012 · Comments Off ·

Superfoods are “natural nutritionally dense” foods, which also have extra synergistic health benefits which come from the “antioxidants” and “phytochemicals”. Let’s look at both of those statements in a bit more depth.

When a food is “nutritionally dense”, it means that the food has high levels of essential vitamins and dietary minerals that we know are required by human beings. That includes vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K and so on, and  dietary minerals such as Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Zinc and so on. But of course many foods contain these things. In fact, all foods we eat every day (even junk food!) contains at least some vitamins and minerals, so what’s this all about?

They key difference is that superfoods have an unusually high concentration of nutrients for their size, when compared to other normal foods. For example, the humble cucumber is mostly – 90% or thereabouts – water, so to get any decent levels of nutrients from a cucumber you’d have to eat an awful lot of them!

Superfoods are so potent that even as much as a handful can give you a decent sized portion of nutrients, sometimes providing your entire recommended daily allowance (or more) for individual vitamins or minerals all in one go. Now that’s truly super! Few foods show such high levels of nutrients in such small quantities, and that’s why superfoods are so beneficial. They can provide nutrition like you’ve never felt before.

OK next up, antioxidants and phytochemicals. These may be new to you, so I want to explain them a bit more before we get any further.

TurboZymes – Your Solution for Enhanced & Superior Digestion

October 11th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

Are you suffering from bloating, indigestion, excessive gas, burping, heartburn, lactose intolerance, can’t lose weight or just feeling tired after eating?  This is you digestive system warning you that you need digestive enzymes.  Sure, we all have an inbuilt enzyme potential, but eating cooked and processed foods (which is the majority of most people’s diets), you are using up your natural supply of digestive enzymes.

Our natural supply of digestive enzymes is depleted over time, through stress, simply aging (by your mid thirties your digestion starts to steadily decline in its effectiveness to break down your foods) and overuse. The more stress is put on our body’s system and we slowly lose the ability to make these enzymes efficiently.

This means that not only are you missing out on the nutrients in food, but the undigested food is clogging your colon. Some people simply can’t lose weight because their digestion is lacking and their metabolism can’t simply can’t get the job done.  The average person over the age of 35-years-old has pounds of undigested waste in their colon depending on their lifestyle and diet — it is truly disgusting! Not to mention dangerous to your health and wellbeing.

Raw Chocolate To Brighten Up Your Day

October 7th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

You may have heard that chocolate was good for you, then you may have been confused about what that actually means.

Given that most readily available chocolate is a result of heavy processing and adding other ingredients like sugar and dairy products it be can’t be healthy right? When the raw beans are made into chocolate, they undergo a series of steps that destroy most of the naturally occurring compounds. The two processes which are most responsible for this destruction are roasting, which exposes the beans to high temperatures, and “dutching” which exposes the beans to a highly alkaline solution.

Ripe cacao pods

This makes the resulting product a meagre shadow of the goodness of the fruit of the glorious plant, originally from the Amazon jungle, “Theobroma cacao”, considered to be a sacred plant by the Mayan civilization, which produce the cacao pods which contain cacao beans…  Theobrama means ‘Food of the Gods’

Chlorella Or Spirulina?

July 9th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

Spirulina and Chlorella belong to a family of tiny organisms, many millions of years old, and generally classified as algae. They are the two most commonly, commercially cultivated algae produced for today?s health food and health supplement market.

Spirulina and Chlorella are perfect whole foods, true superfoods . They have perfect compliments of protein (60%) carbohydrates (19%), fats (6%) bio-available minerals (8%). They are not extracts, concentrates or amalgams of vitamins and minerals that look good on paper such as the vitamin and mineral supplements that people generally believe to be healthy. In reality, the body does not absorb 90% of these vitamin supplements because they are dead, void of enzymes. On the other hand, eating Spirulina or Chlorella is like eating any other whole food such as a banana, apple or broccoli.

Health benefits of Spirulina

Spirulina is extremely high in protein as well as essential fatty acids, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, B12, C, D and E and minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron and zinc. Spirulina assists with muscle building, weight loss and as treatment for certain types of cancer.

Health Benefits Of Chlorella Exceed Expectations

July 8th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

Because of the benefits of chlorella, many people consider this to be a superfood. Chlorella is a single cell algae that is so small it can only be seen by a microscope. However, it grows quickly and has a green color due to the high levels of chlorophyll that are present in the algae, so it is frequently grown in controlled circumstances for use in producing supplements. Taking a chlorella supplement is thought to be helpful in the treatment of a wide variety of different conditions due to the high content of vitamins and minerals, as well as amino acids and protein, that are present in this algae.

Some of the possible chlorella health benefits have been better documented than others, but the variety of conditions that might be helped with these supplements means that it might be worthwhile for many people to give them a try. Because chlorella is an algae, and therefore a food, it is pretty safe to take and can be taken in relatively large doses. If you plan to take supplements to help with a particular condition it might be a good idea to look into the research in order to figure out what dose might be the most helpful for you to take.

Chlorella benefits include the fact that the fibrous outer shell of this algae will bind to toxic metals and chemicals such as mercury, lead, and cadmium in the body in a process known as chelation. This helps to remove these toxic metals from the body over the course of time. Normally these heavy metals would stay in the body and accumulate, causing many health issues. The same is true with many pesticides and chemicals that might be present in the body.

Another chlorella benefit is the fact that chlorella strengthens the immune system. This is why it is thought to help with such a wide variety of different conditions. Some people take supplements in order to assist in the treatment of cancer, arthritis, infections, and degenerative diseases. A stronger immune system will help the body to heal faster from any illness or injury.

Chlorella health benefits also include improving digestion, lowering blood pressure (and therefore the risk of heart attacks and strokes), and helping the body to better control blood sugar levels (thus assisting diabetics with their condition). Due to the wide variety of people that suffer from conditions like this, it is no wonder that people are taking an interest in chlorella.

How Chlorella Detoxifies Your Body

July 7th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

A single celled-algae chlorella is found in the fresh waters. According to the scientific findings, these single celled-algae emerged around two billion years ago. This is was one of the first forms of plants that had a nucleus. However, the highly useful algae were not discovered much before. Historical records show that chlorella was discovered in 19th century. The name chlorella has Greek origins where “Chlora” means green and ?ella’ implies small. It is known to have maximum amount of chlorophyll among known plants in the world. Per gram chlorophyll in this plant is highest. With one fifth part being the indigestible outer cell, nearly eighty percent of the plant consists of highly beneficial nutrients.

Basically a fibrous material, Chlorella has been known to bind itself with the pesticides including PCBs and heavy metals that can accumulate in our bodies. This is one of the greatest reasons as why these single celled-algae are so useful to us. For a strong immune system, a clean blood stream is necessary. The blood stream should also have the ample supply of oxygen being carried by red blood cells to have a perfect natural defense mechanism in place. Taking chlorella powder has been found to be extremely useful in keeping the bloodstream clean as it works on the bowel and other elimination channels of human body. When clean blood is running through the human body, metabolic wastes can be effectively disposed off the tissues. It is also known to provide excellent level protection. It is used as a key detoxification tool because of above mentioned healing properties.

Hemoglobin is responsible for the red color of human blood. It is hemoglobin that binds with the oxygen and carries it over to the different parts of the blood. Only difference in hemoglobin and chlorophyll is the presence of one Mg molecule at the center of compound instead of iron molecule in hemoglobin. Magnesium or Mg is very important for the smooth working of human heart. Each time human heart beats; it is using Magnesium in one form or the other. Shortage of red blood cells causes a serious medical condition known as anemia. Chlorophyll is known to be highly useful in keeping off serious medical conditions like anemia.

A number of independent researchers have suggested the use of Chlorophyll to treat anemic conditions in human body. If you continue consuming Chlorella for a few days, you will have little or no bad breath problem. This is because of the reason that Chlorophyll present in the chlorella works on the digestive system of the human body. If you have been suffering from the problems like foul stool smell, you ought to consume chlorella for some time. You will be absolutely surprised at the kind of results that can be achieved through regular intake of this plant. Consumption of chlorella powder or any other form of this plant is also known to relieve people from constipation problems. One of the greatest natural defense mechanism of human body against serious diseases like cancer is based on interferon. A natural secretion in the human body, interferon is known to simulate the tumor necrosis factor. Regular consumption of the Chlorella will increase the interferon levels in the body, thereby improving the defense mechanism against the dreadful diseases like cancer. Two of the important digestive enzymes are known as chlorophyllase and pepsin. Both of these enzymes are present in the Chlorella and they can streamline a number of processes in the human body. Make sure you do not take pasteurized or freeze dried Chlorella if you are keen on receiving these useful enzymes. Being alkaline in nature, Chlorella can also balance your body’s pH value.

Chlorella Detoxing – A Potent Detox and Mercury Removal

July 5th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

Heavy metal toxicity, just like chemical toxicity, has become one of the most pressing health hazards of our day. These mercury levels come from silver (mercury) fillings,? vaccines, seafood, everyday cookware, and the air we breathe.? One of the major routes of exposure to heavy metals in the United States, aside from vaccines and dental fillings, is eating fish, which is a real shame because seafood has many healthy qualities and is also the preferred food for dieters.? For these reasons amongst many others, detoxing the body has become something of a norm for many people looking to stay healthy, fit, and have a longer life span.

With the information we have these days about the air we breathe, the toxins we ingest without even realizing it and the dishonest food manufacturers and even government bodies, detoxing is a necessity and not always an easy task to undertake.

Thanks to Dr. Ginny Bank, we now know of? a food that flushes heavy toxins from the body at a powerful rate and offers other tremendous benefits to the body and even the mind.

Green_Algae.jpg

Chlorella – a single-celled fresh water algae -? is often referred to as a near-perfect food, as its range of health benefits is truly astounding. It’s no wonder Dr. Bank refers to chlorella as a “phenomenal nutrient.” It has the ability to detox your body by binding toxins such as mercury and cart them out of the the body.? Are Chlorella Vulgaris and Yaeyama Chlorella, one and the same?

July 4th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

While chlorella is a well known nutritional supplement in Japan and many countries in South East Asia, it is still relatively unknown in Europe, where there is a degree of confusion over the different types of chlorella that are available.

In fact, this confusion has been shared by consumers and scientists alike in the past. This is due to the similarity in the different strains of chlorella which has led to problems classifying them.

Classification is normally done on the basis of cell size, cell shape, biochemical and physiological characteristics. However, as these factors aren’t consistent across members of the same chlorella species, it is often difficult to know exactly which species of chlorella a sample is.

There are in fact over 100 types of chlorella, so the common perception that chlorella is only available as Chlorella Vulgaris and Chlorella Pyrenoidosa is a gross over-simplification. In fact, some chlorella researchers have even removed Chlorella Pyrenoidosa as a classification, arguing that this particular strain of chlorella is simply a collection of different types of chlorella that have been misclassified and subsequently classified as other non-chlorella species.

Yaeyama Chlorella is a type of chlorella vulgaris grown in a specific geographical location which has become renowned for the excellent chlorella that is grown there, in much the same way that Parma is famed for its ham and Camembert for its cheese. What makes the Yaeyama version of chlorella vulgaris so unique are the production methods used to process the chlorella and the quality of the nutrients and water used to grow it.  This has led to?Yaeyama Chlorella becoming one of the most popular varieties of chlorella in Japan.

How Chlorella Relates to Constipation

July 4th, 2011 · Comments Off ·

What Is Chlorella?

Dubbed as one of the world’s most influential organisms over the course of it’s three and a half billon year lifespan, chlorella was the first link in the food chain and has continued to be one of the world’s “most powerful foods.” Chlorella was discovered in early twentieth century Germany, where German scientists were on the forefront of invoking the idea of making food from chlorella into action. The initial interest in the power of chlorella plant lied with it’s capabilities to be a reliable food source. In the late-fifties it was discovered that chlorella could not be a reliable source of food due to a low level of digestibility. Researchers then turned their sights on using chlorella as the ultimate promoter of superior health.

Chlorella, packing a combination of sixty percent essential amino acid proteins, has become a popular health supplement, Japan began using chlorella as a food supplement in the mid-eighties following more than three decades of studies involving chlorella cells. In fact, the Japan Chlorella Research Center was founded in 1957 and went on to become largest facility for cultivating chlorella. In 1975, one of Japan’s foremost publications on health, Japanese Journal of Nutrition, published the results of study that pointed to the link between a diet including chlorella and a lowered level of blood and liver cholesterol.

With the emergence of the twenty-first century, the United States and Europe begun pointing to the potentially helpful health hints offered up by chlorella plant cells and supplements. Chlorella cells draw their energy from the light of the sun, the cells then begin to demonstrate a characteristic trait that has been dubbed the Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF). The CGF trait divides the chlorella cell and increases it’s reproduction value. The Chlorella Growth Factor urges strong growth in children and provokes the repair of tissues that have been damaged. When chlorella is ingested, the body is believed to pick up some of the natural elements of the sun.

Chlorella and Constipation

Amongst it’s list of purported health benefits, chlorella’s chlorophyll contents from which chlorella draws it’s name, which are high in dietary fiber, are influential in preventing constipation. The chlorella plant contains more chlorophyll in just one gram than any other plant in the world. Chlorophyll is the one of the most reliable food sources for cleansing not only the bowel, but the blood and liver, as well. Chlorella has also been proven to help the body emit heavy metals and poisonous substance from it’s midst-and these detoxification effects can be paramount in hoisting consistent constipation. Chlorella is a union of green algae composed of a edible outer shell and a inner nucleus filled with fiber. The plant’s blood cleaning abilities is an important step of carrying waste away from the body’s tissues.

Fucoidan And Its Connection To Cancer

July 1st, 2011 · Comments Off ·

Fucoidan (sulfated alpha-L-fucan), considered one of the ocean’ greatest treasures is a sulfated polysaccharide and found primarily in the cell walls of algae and seaweed, such as kombu, limu moui, wakame, hijiki, and bladderwrack. Within the molecular structure of Fucoidan is the presence of fucose which is a healing sugar however not to be confused with fructose. Fucose is also found abundantly in human breast milk, boosting the babies immune system and fighting off any virus or disease.

Seaweed, also known as sea vegetables, is considered a natural source of healthy food and nutrition, have been part of the coastal societies diet for centuries. In our western world seaweed is not a component in many diets probably because of its texture and bad taste.

What has been found in the studies is that fucoidan exhibits a wide range of properties beneficial to maintaining optimal health such as anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti- inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties. It appears to stop the production of new blood vessels in cancerous tumors blockading the food for them to grow and also stimulates the death of certain cancer cells. Unfortunately, even though there is lots of evidence from the scientific community that fucoidan can have a dramatic effect on cancer, it can not be promoted as such.

This is just the start of us hearing about this amazing substance. It not only shows the benefits on cancers, it is also being tested in the treatment of HIV.

There are several health and wellness products on the market that contain this substance, making it much easier to include it in your diets.
