Dr Oz recommended, have a slice of wholegrain bread dipped in olive oil 10 minutes before meals. It’s full of nutrients and gives you a feeling of fullness over a period of time which will reduce your hunger and allow you to reduce portion sizes.


  • Organic wholegrain bread is best
  • Choose extra virgin olive oil
  • Limit yourself to one slice
  • Eat it 10 minutes before mealtime to give time for the “fullness” message to be relayed to your brain.
  • Actually reduce the portion size of your meal!

Literally strip the fat… get rid of it

It’s about flavor…

When I was a child I had trouble eating salad. I just found it boring. Of course there was nothing added to it to make it interesting.  It took me a long time to find simple ways to add interest and flavor without adding lots of calories (from salad dressing).  These are the ways I’ve found which work for me:-

  • Add grated carrot – carrots are very healthy and tastymandarin-segments
  • Add mandarin or orange segments – delicious and healthy
  • Add very finely chopped red onion – just 1 slice is enough to add flavor without tasting of raw onion. (I slice up an onion and freeze it – just remove a slice when I need it)
  • Use vine ripened tomatoes – they taste great
  • Add grated cheese – a small quantity will do
  • Add chopped parsley or coriander – or your favorite herb

Green Tea is a true fat busting food…

Green tea is legendary for it’s multiple health benefits. The very good news is that weight loss is one of them. My husband has been drinking green tea for a few weeks now and his trousers are now loose and he’s looking for something to put an extra hole in his belt because he needs to be able to tighten it up.

Superfoods for a Healthy Prostate

The prostate gland has a reputation as a health destroyer.

Tomatoes, watermelons, red grapefruit, papaya and red berries are all great sources of lycopene, a health-promoting plant pigment known for its cancer-battling ability.  It also promotes a strong immune system and helps support prostate health in men.  Though fresh tomatoes are always an excellent option, the lycopene in cooked tomatoes is actually absorbed more readily by the body.  It’s also your ally in the battle against heart disease.

Quercetin, a flavonoid that forms the backbone of many other flavonoids, may have positive effects in combating or helping to prevent many different types of cancer, including prostate. It also acts as an antihistamine and has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be helpful in relieving the pain of an inflamed prostate.

Foods rich in quercetin include apples, black and green tea (see the previous article on green tea extract helping reduce prostate cancer growth factors, HGF, VEGF and PSA) , onions, raspberries, red wine, red grapes, citrus fruits, broccoli and other leafy green vegetables, like kale and buc choy, and cherries. Quercetin can also be found in honey and sap, including the type from eucalyptus and tea tree flowers.

It’s important to remember to get a healthy balance of foods to keep your prostate healthy, including antioxidants, vitamin E from nuts and seeds, and drink plenty of pure water to help flush the bladder.  Try to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods.  Keeping your weight in check will also help maintain a healthy prostate.

Green Tea May Slow Progression of Prostate Cancer

Study shows green tea “slows prostate cancer”…

Significant reduction in prostate cancer growth factors (HGF, VEGF and PSA) were shown in blood test results of 26 prostate cancer patients. The research was conducted at Louisiana State University Sciences Center in Shreveport by James A. Cardelli, Ph.D., (professor and director of basic and translational research in the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport) and associates and reported in the journal, Cancer Prevention Research.

  • HGF – Hepatocyte Growth Factor – fell 18.9%
  • VEGF – Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor – fell 9.9%
  • PSA – Prostate Specific Antigen – fell 10.4%

The patients each took 4 capsules of a green tea extract (active compound – EGCG {epigallocatechin gallate} – equal to drinking around 12 cups of naturally brewed green tea a day).

“There is reasonably good evidence that many cancers are preventable, and our studies using plant-derived substances support the idea that plant compounds found in a healthy diet can play a role in preventing cancer development and progression,” said Dr Cardelli.

Dr Cardelli also said “These studies are just the beginning and a lot of work remains to be done, however, we think that the use of tea polyphenols alone or in combination with other compounds currently used for cancer therapy should be explored as an approach to prevent cancer progression and recurrence”

Alone or in (home made) Guacamole…
