Your hunger is probably actually dehydration…

Drink lots of water. Pure filtered water is best. I don’t recommend (or buy) bottled water. A large percentage of our body is water. We need water for all our bodily functions to operate properly. Water lubricates our digestive system, water helps us regulate our temperature. Without water we die.

If you only ever use a single one of the 20 Fat busting tips make sure it’s this one. Drink a large glass of water 20 minutes before meal times, your hunger will be less and so you’ll eat less. Drink water when you get up in the morning, drink water mid morning, drink water before lunch, drink water mid afternoon, drink water late afternoon, drink water before dinner, drink water after dinner, drink water after you clean your teeth.

The mantra is Drink More Water. Drink More Water. Drink More Water.


20 Fat Busting Tips – Tip 19 – Treat Yourself

Just a little bit…

I love chocolate. I get chocolate cravings. Problem is that eating lots of chocolate doesn’t seem to make the cravings go away. So recognizing this, rather than eating a whole heap of chocolate at once, I buy either choc chip cookies or a bar of chocolate and have a single piece or just 1 cookie when I get the craving.

I can make a small packet (200 grams, about 7 ounces) of choc chip cookies last 4 weeks. It’s a bit more difficult to make a bar of chocolate last, so I recommend the choc chip cookies.  I know processed cookies are not exactly superfoods, but hey! we all have to live a little.

Rev up your digestion…

A small serving of natural plain yogurt three times a day will provide your digestive system with natural probiotics like acidophilis and bifidus as well as providing a healthy snack to quell those hunger pangs and allow you to eat smaller meal portions.

Make sure the yogurt has no added sugar, is naturally cultured, of course organic would be best.

Seeds count too…

Snacking on a small palmful of nuts like almonds, cashews or seeds like pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds gives your a health boost by adding “good” fats and other essential nutrients to your diet. They satisfy your between meal hunger pangs in a very healthy way.

Sleep has many benefits…

Apart from the obvious benefit of being rested, sleep helps regulate the body’s production of the stree hormone cortisol. Cortisol, which helps regulate appetite, is increased when sleep is insufficient. Also, high levels of cortisol increase hunger and cravings.  Your body reacts to too little sleep by reducing its ability to burn carbohydrates, meaning an increase in stored fat.

So make sure you get plenty of sleep.


20 Fat Busting Tips – Tip 14 – Wholegrain Bread and Olive Oil

This one I owe to Dr Oz from the Oprah Show…

Dr Oz recommended, have a slice of wholegrain bread dipped in olive oil 10 minutes before meals. It’s full of nutrients and gives you a feeling of fullness over a period of time which will reduce your hunger and allow you to reduce portion sizes.

Tips:

  • Organic wholegrain bread is best
  • Choose extra virgin olive oil
  • Limit yourself to one slice
  • Eat it 10 minutes before mealtime to give time for the “fullness” message to be relayed to your brain.
  • Actually reduce the portion size of your meal!

It’s good for your health and your wallet.


20 Fat Busting Tips – Tip 13 – Strip the Fat

Literally strip the fat… get rid of it

There is a natural product (called Corn Fiber Plus) you can use to absorb the fat from the food you’re eating. It’s made from corn fiber and orange powder. They are chewable tablets which can be consumed after fatty or oily meals. The corn fiber binds with the oil and fat and it’s simply passed out of your body in your normal digestive process.

Of course it’s always better to watch what you’re eating and keep your consumption of bad fats to a minimum.


20 Fat Busting Tips – Tip 12 – Add Taste

It’s about flavor…

When I was a child I had trouble eating salad. I just found it boring. Of course there was nothing added to it to make it interesting.  It took me a long time to find simple ways to add interest and flavor without adding lots of calories (from salad dressing).  These are the ways I’ve found which work for me:-

  • Add grated carrot – carrots are very healthy and tastymandarin-segments
  • Add mandarin or orange segments – delicious and healthy
  • Add very finely chopped red onion – just 1 slice is enough to add flavor without tasting of raw onion. (I slice up an onion and freeze it – just remove a slice when I need it)
  • Use vine ripened tomatoes – they taste great
  • Add grated cheese – a small quantity will do
  • Add chopped parsley or coriander – or your favorite herb

Green Tea is a true fat busting food…

Green tea is legendary for it’s multiple health benefits. The very good news is that weight loss is one of them. My husband has been drinking green tea for a few weeks now and his trousers are now loose and he’s looking for something to put an extra hole in his belt because he needs to be able to tighten it up.

Skip the high calorie salad dressing…


The real reason we use salad dressing is that plain salads can actually be, sadly, a bit boring. Try including some tasty ingredients like:-

  • Salt and pepper

  • Very finely chopped red onion (I slice a red onion then freeze the slices. This makes it very easy to keep and chop up a slice or two into a salad as required). It’s not overwhelming, it just adds another dimension of flavor.
  • Lemon, lime or orange juice squeezed over.
  • Some chilli flakes
  • Some grated cheese

I’ve noticed that I sometimes eat something just because I want a different flavor in my mouth, not because I’m actually hungry.

Pure water is best…

Are you drinking a large proportion of your daily calories?  Sodas contain lots of sugar. What about diet sodas?  While they don’t have the same calorie count, artificial sweeteners aren’t something I recommend consuming on a regular basis.  Commercial fruit juices may contain added sugar or simply natural sugars, either way, they can be high in calories.

The best option is to drink pure filtered “living water”.  This water tastes great by itself, however for variation, you can add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime for a zero calorie refresher.
