I’m still reading Dr David Servan-Schreiber’s book “Anti Cancer – a new way of life”. Because of his medical/research background this book not only presents scientifically valid statistics and reasoning behind his words, he also provides interesting, and understandable, commentary on the reasons why our generation is more commonly being afflicted with cancers.
For example, the immense increase in the production of synthetic chemicals from 1 million tons in 1930 to 200 million tons today.
The purpose of Dr Servan-Schreiber’s book is not to scare you, but to reassure you that it’s possible to do things to protect yourself. He provides tables which summarize, e.g. which foods to limit/reduce and which foods to eat instead.

Toxins are all around us:-
External toxins from the polluted air, impure, dead water, foods, beverages, medications

Did you know that studies show that antioxidants can prevent aging on a cellular level? This is where the aging process begins. They prevent one of the tell-tale signs of cellular aging – the accumulation of an “age” pigment called lipofuscin and AGE (advanced glycation end-products).
Accumulation of lipofuscin and AGE is the main cause of the signs of premature aging, such as wrinkles or brown spots on the skin, and can cause even more destruction inside your body.
Antioxidants can slow down their formation and dramatically keep your cells youthful for a longer period of time.

Water – an Essential Element for Cell Rejuvenation
Water is a very important nutrient in cell rejuvenation and optimum health.
Put simply, without water, nothing lives. Water is your energy source, like your body’s cash flow. Water energizes each cell of your body, giving them energy to live and adequate hydration increases the efficiency of your immune system, preventing damage to your DNA. Water powers and electrifies our brain functions and is needed for the efficient manufacture of all neurotransmitters, including serotonin. Water enhances the “mind/body” connection, reducing stress, anxiety, depression and helps maintain normal sleep.
Water is essential for your body’s digestion, metabolism and assimilation of food, and is a must for releasing energy from food.
Water is your body’s transportation mechanism, allowing movement of nutrients through your body. And water facilitates removal of toxic waste from different parts of the body taking it to the liver and kidneys for disposal. Water also prevents constipation and aids in weight loss.
Water is your body’s principal lubricant, it’s present in the joint spaces and spinal discs and helps prevents arthritis and back pain. Water dilutes the blood and prevents it from clotting during circulation, reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Proper hydration improves your skin and eyes.
We cannot store water, so we must continually replenish our supply by drinking pure, fresh energized water regularly.

Enzyme Deficiency, what is it and how do you avoid it?
It’s something you probably never heard of, or thought about. I know I didn’t. So what is it about? Enzymes are the miracle nutrient vital for health.
We are all born with an “enzyme potential”. Our personal enzyme potential depends on our genes, something we can’t control. When our enzyme “bank” runs out, health suffers and life ends.
Every function of your body requires enzymes to make it happen. Without enzymes we wouldn’t be able to:-
Basically we wouldn’t be able to exist. Put simply, we would die.
It all sounds a bit dramatic, but it’s true. Our cells degenerate fast if you have an enzyme deficiency, causing aging and sickness.
However, enzymes aren’t forever, they have a limited life and must be replaced regularly. The problem is that you can’t get enzymes from cooked food. Every time we eat cooked food we make a withdrawal from your enzyme bank. Conversely each time you take an enzyme supplement you make a deposit. Eating enzyme-rich raw food is a good start, but it doesn’t count as a deposit as the enzymes required to digest a certain food are contained in that food.
So how can you increase the balance at your enzyme bank? Enzyme supplements. What is the best type of supplement? A complex bio enzyme supplement created using many fresh, raw fruits and vegetables to deliver a broad range of enzymes, in a pre-digested liquid form.
We are alkaline creatures who require slightly alkaline blood pH of 7.35 to 7.45 to allow correct oxygenation of our blood so the body’s vital processes can function properly. A reading above or below this range means our body is under stress, leading to illness, disease or worse.
Normal blood pH has a very small window of acid/alkaline pH balance.
How does an acidic pH occur? From the foods we eat, (poor diet and acidic food), water, stress, intake of toxins, poor immune system. An acidic balance decreases the body’s ability to absorb nutrients and decreases the body’s ability to detoxify, leading to an impaired immune system. Plus your reserves of minerals will be depleted as your body tries to compensate for an acidic pH by using up your reserves of alkaline minerals.
It is important to understand that the pH thing is not just a piece of fancy chemistry we don’t need to worry too much about. Here are just three simple reasons why:
If our body pH sinks below 4.0. we die.
Bacteria, viruses, fungi and all disease-producing organisms flourish in an acidic medium and die in alkaline conditions. The same is true of Cancer cells. So once our body pH starts to drop below neutral, we are opening the door for disease right there.
All the many Enzymes required for every function in our bodies will not work under acid conditions.
So if we keep our body fluids alkaline, we are setting up the first line of defence against disease and aging.
There are both external toxins (which we breathe in and absorb through our skin) and internal toxins (from water, food containing preservatives, additives, colorings, stabilizers and the like, medications, cell degeneration, free radicals, stress and other lifestyle issues).
Undigested food causes toxins – carbohydrates ferment, protein putrefies, fats turn rancid – all causing production of toxins. Slow movement through your digestive system (constipation) causes toxins to be absorbed by the body.

Unfortunately, toxins are all around us, in the home, our workplaces, simply everywhere.
They come in all forms, like pesticides, herbicides, medications, hormones, steroids, mercury and other heavy metals, in the air, water, our food supply, the fillings in our teeth. The air we breathe contains pollution from cars and industry. Processed food and beverages contains flavorings and coloring (permitted because they are “safe” – safe and healthy are different issues).
Being bombarded daily with toxins causes our bodies to come under attack. Free radicals (highly unstable molecules) wreak havoc in our cells. So our bodies become more unhealthy at a cellular level.
We need to both minimize our input of toxins and find ways of removing them from our body.
Tonight I had the pleasure of attending a presentation by Dr TC Choo, Doctor of Naturopathy & Nutrition Counselling. Dr Choo has years of experience in the field of natural medicine, and he’s a lot of fun too. It’s late here but I just couldn’t wait to post an update.
