The Top Ten Priorities for Detoxification

As you can see detoxification is an important tool, but it is not at the top of the priority list — especially if you are sick. Unfortunately, a lot of people first consider detoxing when they’re not feeling well.

It’s important to realize that if you fail to follow an orderly process and begin detoxification processes prematurely, it can deteriorate your health even further, making you very sick.”

Think about radiation…

Radiation is toxic to our bodies however, we are all exposed to unavoidable radiation exposure from sources like cosmic radiation from outer space, natural radiation from the earth.

So simply getting closer to space in ways like air travel and living at altitude increases your exposure to cosmic radiation.

Other man-made factors  in your environment like, living near a coal fired or nuclear power plant, also increases your exposure.

Household items like smoke detectors, microwave ovens, TV sets and other electrical equipment emit radiation of different types.

Try to minimize your exposure to radiation from sources like medical x-rays and nuclear medicine procedures.

Cell phones also emit radiation. While it may not be scientifically proven they cause illness, there is enough anecdotal evidence for me to decide to limit the time I place anything which emits EMF near my head. I’ve seen a Neurosurgeon on TV stating his personal belief that we are about to see an epidemic of  brain tumors due to EMF radiation from mobile phones. I think we are already seeing this happen. His suggestion? Use your phones loud speaker to take and make calls. Don’t allow children to use cell phones or cordless phones.

Don’t place a cordless phone on your bedside table – use a corded phone there.

Think about your whole body energy…

Like all matter, the human body is not just made up of physical and chemical structures, it also has subtle energy fields known as bio-energy.  Bio-energy is crucial to life. A body without energy = death. Our brain activity is powered by electrical impulses. Our food is converted into energy for every cell in our bodies to use. Every nerve impulse in your body is an electric current. Every cell in your body is a mini-battery. When healthy, your cells pump out 70-90 millivolts.

To achieve and maintain vibrant health, we must protect our energy frequency and flow (or circulation) throughout the body.

To attain and maintain vibrant health, we must protect the vital bio-energy flow throughout our body which should be free-flowing, and in perfect vibration or frequency.

Any disruption or imbalance to the bio-energy pathways or “vibrations” can lead to disharmony, making us prone to ill health and diseases.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body and is plays a major part  in your detox process. You can use saunas to sweat out toxins. However, it’s also a major entry point for toxins. Personal care lotions are absorbed by your skin. Hair colorants and nail polish remover are also hazards. And don’t forget the residue of dry cleaning chemicals in your clothes.

A major problem is the risk of absorption of household chemicals and pesticides. Never get these chemicals on your skin.

Again, it’s very difficult to avoid all these toxins, all you can do is try and minimize your exposure by purchasing the “friendliest” products you can find and afford.  Personally I avoid dry cleaning all together, most garments which state “dry clean only” can be carefully washed by hand then drip dried or steam cleaned. If I think a garment can only be cleaned by dry cleaning I probably wouldn’t even buy it.

Your skin absorbs chlorine and other chemicals used to treat our water supplies. So while you are showering, you are actually absorbing harmful chemicals. The very bad news is that you take these chemicals much more readily through your skin compared to drinking unfiltered water. This information is not new (as the quote from the New Scientist will show) it’s just not well known.

“Taking long hot showers is a health risk…… Showers, and to a lesser extent baths, lead to a greater exposure to toxic chemicals contained in water supplies than does drinking it. The chemicals evaporate out of the water and are inhaled. They can also spread through the house and be inhaled by others. Indigestion, constipation and bloating seem to be prevalent these days.  It’s a fact that our digestive tract is the first part of our system to be subjected to toxins in water and food. If constipation slows the movement of wastes then your body is subjected to concentrated toxins for a longer period of time. This is obviously something to avoid and a good reason to use those 7 day detox plans. Detoxifying your body is not about starving yourself, it’s about nourishing and cleansing.

Foods like fresh fruit and vegetables cereals, grains, seeds and nuts are high in fiber which helps speed the movement of waste through your digestive tract.

Probiotics are another way to aid your digestive process. There is no doubt there is a war going on in your digestive tract. We all have good microbes (intestinal flora) residing within us, but there are bad ones as well. Disease-causing bugs in the intestine must compete with the “good” microbes.
What we need is an effective way to not only help keep the balance, but to actually let the good flora win. You need more good bacteria to allow your immune system, which is your body’s defense mechanism, to fight against the millions of bacteria and toxins you consume each day. Probiotics are vital for proper digestion of fats and proteins, synthesizing of vitamin K, vital for the prevention of osteoporosis and many of our B vitamins, plus they detoxify the intestinal tract and reduce cancer risks.

Pure water is also an essential part of detoxifying your digestive system, proper hydration allows more efficient elimination of waste so ensure you drink 8-10 glasses of purified water each day.

Think about eating…

Are you getting enough nutrition?  Realise that I didn’t say enough food, I said enough nutrition. That a great many people are getting too much food is very evident. Unsatisfied hunger is a signal that, despite eating, your body is still undernourished. It’s really a cry for help. So, answer the call and eat whole foods rich in essential proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and micro-nutrients like antioxidants, phytonutrients and trace minerals.

Our bodies need proper nutrition to function properly at all levels, and this includes our ability to detoxify. Eating nutrient dense foods is important to nurture your body’s 100 trillion cells.

Avoid eating processed foods which almost always contain high levels of sugar, salt, fats, coloring, preservatives and other chemicals. Fresh whole food is best.

Add nutrient dense superfoods like acai berry, maqui berry supplements to your diet. These natural superfoods have high levels of antioxidants and phytonutrients, plus fiber to cleanse your colon. Other superfoods like spirulina (considered to be a whole food) , chlorella (which has the ability to remove heavy metal contamination from your body) and stabilized rice bran are a must to boost your intake of concentrated nutrition.

The other aspect is to avoid ingesting toxins. Organically grown food has been shown to be more nutritious  and is certified to be free of pesticides. So, if you can afford it, buy organic. If you’re more budget conscious, take up the example of America’s First Lady, Michelle Obama and plant your own organic vegetable garden. It’s very rewarding, you know the exact origin of the food, plus you can grow special varieties, not just the types usually grown commercially.

Think about drinking water…

Any detoxification program must include drinking lots of water.  Of course, as with anything, even drinking too much water can be detrimental so don’t overdo it!

While most of us are lucky enough to live in areas with a good water supply infrastructure (and this can only be a good thing) chemicals are added to our drinking water, plus there is evidence of pharmaceuticals and other chemicals being found in town water supplies.

I’m not going to discuss the merits or perils of fluoride here, enough to say that some people believe it’s good thing and others a bad thing. Give yourself a choice, and the best chance to drink pure water – get a quality water purifier like a π Water purifier which gives you the most ideal water for your body. Personally, I totally avoid buying bottled water, do yourself and the planet a favour and use your own water purifier and refill your own bottles (preferably glass ones).

Drinking 6-10 glasses of water each day helps your body flush out toxins. I know there have been articles in the press decrying the “8 glasses a day” regime. However, most people don’t drink anywhere near 8 glasses of pure water each day and remain chronically dehydrated. Dehydration occurs long before you actually feel thirsty. Feeling thirsty is actually your body  desperately crying out for help.

Is it difficult to drink 8 glasses of water a day?  Not really, just set yourself up for success by thinking about it. Drink 1 glass immediately upon waking, drink another glass before you eat breakfast or after you clean your teeth, drink another mid-morning, drink one before lunch – that 4 already! Drink 1 with your lunch, drink 1 mid-afternoon, drink 1 when you return home from work, drink 1 before dinner, drink 1 before you go to bed  after you clean your teeth – that’s actually 9!  See how easy it is!

Just a quick note on boiling water: Boiling water does not get rid of chlorine, it just turns it into Trihalomethane (THM) an even more dangerous carcinogen.
