SE Pendant Announcement

Is the SE Pendant safe?

“There has been some mention in the media in 2009 about the SE Pendant  (sold by eCosway) that may cause some concern among current users. This is an explanation on the situation with facts taken from the website of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The Company recalled the SE Pendant in Hong Kong as a response to the Hong Kong customs’ concern that the minerals thorium and uranium are present in amounts that exceed certain threshold levels that have been set by the authorities.

However, this does not inherently mean that the pendant is harmful. The action brought forth by the Hong Kong Customs is based on technicality and a difference in opinion on the safety level of certain natural occurring elements.

In Taiwan, in response to the news in Hong Kong, officers from Taiwan’s Atomic Energy Council (AEC) visited the Company’s Taichung warehouse last week to investigate the SE Pendant. According to the AEC officers present that day, the radiation emitted by the SE Pendant when checked with a handheld gadget, should not be harmful to health, and expressed surprise with the action brought on by the Hong Kong customs. In the 13th Sept Taiwanese newspaper, Apple Daily, it is clearly mentioned that according to the AEC, the Pendant is NOT radioactive although the reading is 2-3 times higher than the background reading. It is also mentioned that the content of Thorium and Uranium is within permissible levels. However, they are still awaiting the AEC’s confirmed laboratory testing before releasing its sales in Taiwan.

In Korea, where they are equally strict on quality control and safety issues, the SE Pendant which conforms to the standards specified by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS), is permitted by the KFDA (Korean FDA) to be sold freely in Korea. If there was even the slightest suggestion that the SE Pendant may be harmful or poses a slightest ethical risk, KFDA would be scrutinizing its safety.

Although we (the Company) are confident that Malaysian findings will concur with Korean FDA and Taiwan AEC’s stand, where regulations may actually conflict, it is better to err on the side of caution. Hence, as a responsible company with a track record of over 30 years, eCosway have decided to stop the sales of the SE Pendant temporary in Malaysia until they can meet up with the Malaysian authorities.

We are currently having a new pendant manufactured that will conform to the existing regulations of all countries (and validated by laboratory test results). This pendant should be available in the next 2-3 months. They will be making the announcement in all sales centres once they are available. People will be able to exchange their existing pendants for these new ones if they prefer.

eCosway continues to believe that the SE Pendant is a great product with great benefits. So far, there are no evidence of any negative side effects ever occurring from a solid, natural form of volcanic material worn as a pendant. On the other hand, they have seen many positive studies, and have heard literally thousands of positive testimonials.

The SE Pendant is made from volcanic ash. As a natural material (like soil, rock and plants), this ash sometimes contains very small amounts of a naturally occurring radioactive minerals such as thorium and uranium. These “radioactive” minerals are naturally present in most rocks, soil, water, plants and animals and present no problems to health. Volcanic eruptions and coal burning can release these minerals into the air and when ingested or inhaled in large quantities, these minerals can be detrimental to health. This is generally what is being referred to when authorities set safety levels. The thorium and uranium present in the SE Pendant are naturally occurring (as they are in most stones) and are fused tightly in the solid form and therefore not likely to be ingested or inhaled.
