Helping Kids

A couple of nights ago we met up with the International Coordinator of the charitable organization we support.

It’s an eye opening experience. We saw the reality in which a very large percentage of the world live every day. Anyone with a solid roof over their heads and regular healthy food to eat is incredibly fortunate. And we take it for granted.

If you, like me, have felt powerless to help there IS a way - go to www.whhf.org/helpingkids and check out the Supporter Rebate Program - it’s a way of creating a self-sustaining donation to a worthy organization with a very “hands-on” attitude to helping others. Currently they are supporting 4 orphanages in Kenya (where things have become even more difficult with unrest following their recent election).

Here is an excerpt from the latest report from the WHHF African Coordinator, Peter Hewitt:
“We spent some time today distributing food to aids sufferers. Some of them have up to 10 extra people in their little homes because of all the trouble, some with up to 15 extras. Most range from 5 to 10 extras. This of course places a huge burden on the family. The protocol is a fairly simple; the 275 families involved have at least one HIV positive family member.
Because we have moved so many people out of this one camp it is ready to be closed down. But the remaining families have no where to go so we are working with other agencies to find alternative accommodation for them.
Our counselling team has been doing a wonderful job, especially with the women and children in the camp; here is a lovely thank you letter from one of the mothers we relocated recently faithfully copied down by one of our counsellors:
“My name is Rophi Achieng I am HIV positive and a widow with 2 children. After the voting we were badly beaten and our little home burned to the ground, we had only small belongings, but these were all destroyed or stolen. We were very sick and weak but found our way to the displacement camp at Nakuru where we were greatly helped by

Children at the Kokoto Orphanage. Yes, happy, smiling faces do make it all worthwhile. Thank you so much for your support.

nice people working with WHHF, they really saved our lives and when we were well again they helped us to travel back to our original area called Busia. My children and I are now very happy with our friends and relatives and parents, we are extremely thankful to WHHF.”

This is just one of many, many stories that could be told, the thanks ultimately belong to our Supporters. Will you please be sure to convey thanks from all the team here in Kenya and from everyone we have helped?”

Have you always wanted to help but not sure what you can possibly do to make a difference? You can now make a BIG difference, together with the whhf (World Health & Humanitarian Foundation).
